One Day Guided Nature Walk and Cruise
If you had the choice of the best day day trip in the country, this trip would certainly be one of the top contenders.

We begin the day by visiting Motuara Island in the Queen Charlotte Sound. The island is a predator free, native bird sanctuary and home to a number of species that are practically extinct on the mainland.

Stepping onto the island the bird calls are almost deafening and it is easy to imagine how it must have been when Captain Cook visited the area as the birdlife is in such rich abundance. The birds that we may see, as well as hear, include the New Zealand robin, saddleback, little blue penguins, kereru, tomtits, fantails, parakeet and bellbirds. With the help of your nature guide, who are experts in native bird identification your visit to this idealic place will be an amazing experience.

Motuara Island is also of historical interest as it is the place where in 1770 Captain Cook claimed sovereignty over the South Island in the name of King George III.

From here we then visit Ship Cove to take in the cultural and historical significance of the area before making our way by boat to Resolution Bay to feed the large Blue Cod in a voluntary marine reserve. We continue by on the water to Furneaux Lodge where we begin our walk to Punga Cove.

The walk is an easy 4 hour stroll around the coastline of Endeavour Inlet walking through regenerating forest filled with many small native birds. Watch out for the cheeky Weka or bush hen at lunch time or you may find your selection of delicious goodies of particular interest to this inquisitive bird.

We then return back to Picton on the afternoon Beachcomber Cruises mail boat dropping NZ post to the locals that live in this area. We may also have the opportunity to come across dolphins and New Zealand fur seals that frequent these waters.
